I have been here before
I thought as I read this page.
There is a sense of familiarity. It was as though I wrote these words. But I didn’t. At least not yet.
Wait, is this a parallel universe, like one of my favourite science fiction books, Dark Matter? Or time travelling, like the Avengers did?
In a sense, yes. I’m writing for my future self. These are letters to future-Alfred. Nobody but him. But in a Nike’s “If you have a body, you are an athlete” way, if you are reading this, I’m assuming you are Alfred.
Welcome to Letters To Alfred.
If you are new here or to me, here’s a quick introduction:
Hello! I’m Alfred.
I’m a marketer by trade but I do a bit of everything. Design, code, accounting, and more. I’m currently a cofounder of Pebblely (AI product photography) with my high school friend Lim Swee Kiat. We previously built Vispunk (AI image editor and video generator) and Dashibase (Notion-like internal tool builder). On the side, I built Magic Blocks (AI content transformer), Alfie (AI editor for content marketers), and Augment Notes (spaced-repetition-inspired note-taking app).
Before founding a startup, I led marketing at ReferralCandy. Before that, I was a marketer at Buffer for six years (community, content, SEO, product marketing).
I’m also a dad to a little boy. I try to be as hands-on as possible but I’m still learning to juggle it all. My son is a big motivation for me wanting to write more (read: figure it out) and, hence, this Substack. Someday he might read these letters and I hope he will realize I haven’t always figured things out (but I try) and he will learn from my mistakes so that he doesn’t have to make them again.
What to expect here?
Chaos! But hopefully beautiful chaos.
Since I became a founder dad, I have been surviving day to day. But I want to do better. Writing helps me think, so I want to use this platform to help me figure things out one by one.
I write about my experiences and challenges as a founder dad and share my thoughts and lessons in technology, AI, startups, behavioral science, and design. These will be letters to myself but you are welcome to read them.
If what I have shared above resonates with you or if you want to figure things out together, subscribe below and join me on this journey.
